The Movie
Buttercup and Westley (Farmboy) fall in love.

Prince Humperdinck wants Buttercup for his bride.

Vizzini, Inigo, and Fezzik, pose as poor lost circus performers,
to kidnap Princess Buttercup and start a war between Guilder and Florin.

The Dread Pirate Roberts comes to her rescue.

First he must climb the Cliffs of Insanity,

he must swordfight with Inigo,

then he must wrestle with Fezzik,

and finally he must have a battle of wits with Vizzini.

Victorious, the Dread Pirate Roberts takes off with Princess Buttercup,
and soon she realizes he is her true love Westley.

With Prince Humperdinck hot on their trail, they escape into the Fire Swamp,

where they face the three terrors of the Fire Swamp: 1) the Flame Spurt,

2) the Lightning Sand,

and 3) R.O.U.S. (Rodents of Unusual Size).

They survive the Fire Swamp, but when they reach the other side,
Prince Humperdinck is waiting for them. Buttercup offers to surrender,
as long as Humperdinck promises not to harm Westley.
He promises, Buttercup goes with Humperdinck,
and Westley is taken away by Count Rugen, also known as the six-fingered man.

The King dies, Humperdinck becomes King, and Buttercup is now Queen.

When Buttercup is presented to the crowd as the new Queen,
an old hag boos her for betraying her true love.
Alas, Buttercup wakes up and discovers that it was just a dream.
She isn't really Queen; it is 10 days before the wedding.

Meanwhile, Prince Humperdinck hasn't lived up to his promise.
Instead of sending Westley back to his ship,
he has had Westley locked up in a dungeon.
Count Rugen has been conducting experiments on Westley, using The Machine.
When Buttercup refuses to marry Prince Humperdinck,
Humperdinck gets so outraged that he goes down to the dungeon and sets The Machine
on the highest setting, killing Westley by draining all of the life out of him.

Westley's dying screams can be heard throughout the kingdom,
and Fezzik and Inigo, reunited, go to find Westley.

Fezzik and Inigo find Westley dead, and they take him to Miracle Max to be healed.

In the meantime, Prince Humperdinck hurries the wedding.
Buttercup goes through with it, because she's certain that Westley will come for her.

The Impressive Clergyman conducts the service.

While Westley is recovering from being Mostly Dead,
he, Fezzik and Inigo have devised a plan.
Fezzik poses as the Dread Pirate Roberts,
to scare away the men guarding the castle.

Prince Humperdinck speeds up the wedding,
and the King walks Buttercup back to her room,
where she plans to kill herself because she married Humperdinck,
and Westley has not come for her.

Westley is waiting for her in her room.
He tells her she did not actually marry Humperdinck,
because she didn't say "I do." They get away, and Buttercup jumps out the window,
where Fezzik is waiting to catch her.

The four of them ride away, and Westley and Buttercup kiss.

Their kiss is rated one of the five purest, most romantic kisses of all time.
Well, that's a very brief synopsis of the movie! There are a few more screen
captures, as well as some sound montages I made myself, on my
Princess Bride Sounds Page.
